All About Bo

Technician in green shirt, standing in front of green and white Elek Plumbing service van.

Each month, we’ll provide tips from one of the most renowned plumbers in the Lehigh Valley, Bo Silvoy. With over 42 years in the plumbing business, Bo has seen it all – and there’s nothing this charming character loves more than sharing his knowledge with coworkers and customers.

To kick off our first edition of Elek E-News, we’ll share Bo’s number one piece of advice: To treat everyone fairly and just be good people.

Bo’s path to plumbing expertise began during his years at Liberty High School, where he was enrolled in the Vo-Tech training program for plumbing. Right after graduation, Bo began his career working for Lehigh University in the mid-’70s. Then in 1977, he took a job at Elek Plumbing, where he would spend 35 years in the field.

In the past few years, Bo has transitioned from the field to the Elek warehouse manager, but he’s still more passionate than ever about helping people and saving the day.

“The best thing about my career was being out in the field, meeting new people, helping people, taking care of their problems and feeling like a hero,” he says.

The thing you might be most surprised to learn about Bo? His real name is Steven! The youngest of five with four older sisters, Steven became Bo when the youngest of his older sisters tried to say “brother” but could only make out “Bo Bo” – the name stuck, and a plumbing legend was born.

As Bo reflects on it now, he adds with a chuckle, “The only people to call me Steven were the nuns.”
