The Canal Museum has over five acres of land and a collection of historic buildings. Visitors can enjoy walking through the gardens and grounds to explore the buildings and the collections inside. The gardens and buildings of the Canal Museum tell the story of the canal era and the impact it had on the region’s history. The buildings include the Crescent Hotel, the house where Elias Howe started the sewing machine industry, the historic canal boats, the railroad car collection, and the railroad tracks that are a part of the museum’s educational programs.  – The Crescent Hotel: The Crescent Hotel is where the museum’s offices are located and where the hotel’s restaurant is located. The hotel was built in 1844 and is a large, two-story building with Federal-style architecture. The hotel has seen many guests and has a collection of items from many of those guests. – The Canal House: The Canal House is the museum’s main building. It is where the museum’s popular programs and events are held. The Canal House was built in 1881 and is a one-story, five-bay, Italianate-style brick building. – The Railroad Museum: The museum’s collection of railroad artifacts and equipment is housed in the railroad museum. The museum houses a large collection of railroad cars, engines, and other memorabilia from many aspects of the railroad industry. – The Children’s Museum: The Children’s Museum is a hands-on museum for children. Many of the railroad cars in the collection at the Easton Canal Museum are located in the museum’s west wing, which is located in the west wing of the canal house. Other pieces of the railroad cars are located in the east wing, which is located in the east wing of the canal house.  The west wing of the canal house is the former Crescent Hotel. The west wing of the canal house was built first and was made into the Crescent Hotel in 1881. That wing of the canal house has a two-story brick facade with a mansard roof. The west wing is connected to the east wing of the canal house by a covered walkway.  The west wing of the canal house contains the canal house’s collections of railroad cars and equipment, including a large collection of Pennsylvania Railroad equipment. The west wing also has the Crescent Hotel’s restaurant and function space.

The museum hosts many special events each year. Some of the more popular events at the museum include the Easton Canal Buggy Races, the Fall Festival, the Halloween Festival, and the Christmas Festival. These events bring history to life for visitors of all ages.  The Easton Canal Buggy Races are both exciting and fun. These races are held in the Canal House’s grounds on the first Saturday in June. The races are followed by a festival that includes music, food, and activities.  The Fall Festival is held in the Canal House’s grounds on the first Saturday in October. The festival has games for children and adults, food, and music.
